Our Plant / Technology
Our plant has the capacity to produce 200,000 tons per year. We have a galvanized ecological line that meets the highest environmental safety standards and amply complies with local regulations. This line is the only one of its kind in Latin America and is the fourth in world. Its objective is to cut contamination by reducing the concentration of lead in smoke, steam and sewage emissions. These production standards are possible due to the technological backing of our shareholder, Bekaert, which is a global manufacturer of steel products.
Prodac would like to invite you to learn about our productive process, which is divided into 5 sections.
Wire rod reception: The process to manufacture wire begins when wire rod arrives at PRODAC. Wire rods are long bars of circular steel that are used as inputs for processes. These rods, which are produced through hot rolling, come in diameters that vary between 5.50 and 14 mm and in rolls weighing between 1 to 2 tons.
The wire rod is subjected to a cleaning process with chemicals (through immersion in tanks filled with acid) to eliminate oxides and surface impurities. This aids in processing and enhances adherence in subsequent coating processes.
3. Cold drawing
This is a cold deformation process, which consists in gradually reducing the diameter of the wire by passing them through various cone-shaped dice (widia, natural diamond and synthetic). As the wire is cold drawn, it hardens. To achieve very thin diameters, it is necessary to subject the wire to subsequent thermal processes.
To prevent the wires from rusting, it is necessary to cover them with a film of zinc through a galvanizing process. This process consists of submerging the wire in a liquid zinc bath at 450°C with 99.999% purity. This is known as hot-dip galvanization.
5. Final Conversion
After the wire is submitted to different thermal treatments or coatings to prevent corrosion, it can be sold as a finished product in the following forms: steel wire rod, annealed wire, galvanized wire and plasticized metal wire.
